Os Escândalos de uma Revolucionária
25 October 1965. The Portuguese Annie Silva Pais should be returning to Cuba, where she has lived for two years with her husband, the Swiss diplomat Raymond Quendoz. But, to his despair, Annie is not among the passengers of the plane that has just landed on the Havana airport runway. Or so it seems... The disappearance of Annie Silva Pais will give rise to an international mystery that will mobilize the CIA official in Havana, the head of the Swiss security services, the highest representative of Portugal in Cuba, and even Salazar and Fidel Castro. Because Annie is not only married to a Swiss diplomat. She is also the daughter of one of the most important men of the Estado Novo: Fernando Silva Pais, the director of the PIDE. What happened to Annie? Did she abandon her husband or is she being manipulated by someone? With what objective? And why? Os Segredos da Seita do Yoga
A guru, a yoga movement with thousands of followers around the world, promises of spiritual evolution that end in accusations of sexual exploitation and human trafficking. And it all went through Lisboa too. This podcast is the result of a journalistic investigation into the rise and fall of Gregorian Bivolaru. Over several decades, and under the seemingly innocent facade of a network of yoga schools, “Grieg,” as he is known among his followers, ran a cult that promised personal development, spirituality and love. But he ended up as one of the men most wanted by international police, lived for several years in hiding and is currently imprisoned in França awaiting trial for sexual, labor and psychological exploitation. It is also the story of how a group of Portuguese women followed that promise of spiritual evolution, fell into the abyss and embarked on a journey of liberation. For all of them, the entry point was a yoga school in Lisboa. Many ended up taking part in pornographic websites and gatherings that involved orgies. The women and men interviewed for this Podcast Plus reveal the full experience they went through during the years they lived in the cult. From the initial enchantment of the promise of finding meaning in life through spirituality, to the nightmare of realizing they were, after all, inside an “invisible prison.” And they also tell how and when they began to connect the dots and realized they were part of a cult. All of it, they assure, so that no other woman or man has to go through the same thing. All the entities targeted by this investigation were contacted. The answers to the questions sent by Observador will be found at the end of each episode. “Os Segredos da Seita do Yoga” is the new Podcast Plus from Observador. A series narrated by actress Daniela Ruah, with an original soundtrack by Benjamim. Narration: Daniela Ruah Soundtrack: Benjamim Script and interviews: Mariana Marques Tiago and Tânia Pereir
