Kecy a politika 256: Babiš s Ficem obnovují Československo
EN · machine The Kecy a politika podcast has obtained a document called Memorandum on Deepening Cooperation between the Slovak and Czech Republics. It appears that Prime Ministers Fico and Babiš want to coordinate the energy policies of both countries and create a close tandem in voting at various European institutions and associations. Despite the fact that Slovakia is following the example of Orbán's Hungary in building an authoritarian democracy. We ask: what is advantageous for Czech national interests in deepening cooperation with Fico's Slovakia in this way? Another reason is that Slovakia is in absolute isolation within the EU and NATO and has decided to orient its energy and foreign policy towards Russia. This was nicely demonstrated during the diplomatic rift with the new Dutch government, which stated in its program declaration that Slovakia and Hungary are actively undermining European unity, and therefore it is necessary to stand up to such states. The question is: is it in the Czech national interest to help Slovakia out of isolation? What will the state gain from this? And what interests of Andrej Babiš are behind this? Is it related to the contaminated area after the Bratislava chemical plant Istrochem, which is owned by Andrej Babiš? When he privatized this area in 2002, he was supposed to spend more than five billion crowns on its cleanup after the communist era. Shortly after the elections in October 2025, he negotiated with the Slovak Minister of the Environment, Taraba, who wants to give him a subsidy of 8-17 billion crowns for this purpose. Is it these and other business interests of people around Babiš that are leading the new Czech government to deepen cooperation? And why did Babiš include Ivan Bednárik in his government, who spent most of his professional career working for people connected to Russia? From these and other things that we discuss in the podcast, we conclude that the march towards an authoritarian state has slowly but surely begun in the Czech Republic. When will the attack on courts, security forces, and media begin? In many ways, it has already happened. And how will the non-Babiš part of Czech society react?
